Dave's "Not Just a Sunday Thing"

The good people of my church at "Space For God" have let me loose on their website at www.spaceforgod.org.au, deciding that I can contribute by writing my very own blog. The aim of the blog, entitled Dave's Not Just a Sunday Thing will be to inform the church and the wider community about our weekly activities and give them an opportunity to think about the subject we'll be talking about on Sunday night. I hope that this will give people a chance to think about the relevant issues so that they may be able to meaningfully contribute on the Sunday night. Hopefully, this also means that people can apply what we are talking about to our lives throughout the week, rather than simply in the context of an intellectual conversation at the gathering. I'll also provide somewhat of a post-mortem on the Monday or Tuesday so that we are able to continue any conversations that didn't quite finish on the Sunday night and wanted to keep going.

Although there's a strong sense in which what I'm doing is intended to help members of the community, I'd like to also encourage other people to contribute. It has always been our goal that Space For God would be an open and inclusive community and that people should feel welcome to have their say irrespective of whether or not they can make it to our Sunday gatherings, for whatever reason. This is all the more true if you believe you hold a viewpoint that conflicts with what I'm saying. I'd like to think that we could all learn from listening to what each person has to say and taking their thoughts onboard.

While I'm still talking about Space For God, I'd just like to encourage you to read Bek's Reflections. Bek is a wonderful writer and a talented poet whose unique insights complement my more prosaic articles quite nicely.

I just read your blog, I am realising it is quite a wonderful way to stay in touch with people when you can't go have a coffee after church. Anyhow, I agree Erskineville sounds like a great community, and I am a great fan of getting to know the shopkeeper, both as lovely daily interaction and a way of changing the stupid isolation culture of a city like Sydney. I was also very touched by what you wrote about my writing, thankyou.Over here it is hard to see how it all fits in sometimes. Lots of love

Hi Bek,

Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you stick around.

Please know that you are a cherished member of our community and that your reflections are greatly valued. Though it is disappointing for us that you are not here in person, you are here with us in spirit and with the wonders of the internet, you can participate in our gatherings. We are truly blessed to have you around for such occasions.
